IN SPITE OF THIS D*** COMPUTER:
OREGON AND WASHINGTON CONSTRUCTION
WORKER ASSISTANCE
I am creating this blog following my Local Unions
establishment of a Volunteer Organizing Committee. I will NOT list
any contractor that there may be an organizing campaign on which
there may be a campaign attempted, but I shall give any person
visiting, a listing of what their employer can and cannot do during a
campaign, against an employee that wishes to Unionize.
A
place where a non-union worker can access the “TRUTH” about what
it means to change from being an “exploited” construction worker,
to being a Construction professional in their own chosen field.
I
may not have all the answers on this blog, but I will attempt to
provide a competent place to find them.
I
am a second generation and almost 40 year member of the United
Association of the Plumber's, Steam and Marine Fitters Local Union
290 here in Portland, Oregon. Our family has over 430 years
belonging to this organization. I have served my Local Union as The
Vice President, as a Business Agent/Organizer, as the first President
of the combined Statewide Union; Local 290 whose geographical
jurisdiction ranges North and South from SW Washington to Northern
California, and West and East from the Pacific Ocean to Malhuer
County in Oregon, and represents over 4,000+- worker's in the
Industry. And I served 17 years as Executive/Secretary Treasurer of
the Columbia Pacific Building and Construction Trades Council,
AFL-CIO which is a coalition of Construction Union's in SW Washington
and N.W. Oregon that represent close to 12,000 worker's in all
facet's of the construction industry.
I
will also attempt to provide some background history of the
A.F.L.C.I.O., it's structure and department's, and their
contributions to our society.

For sister Danni, nephew Steve, sister Clare, cousin Mick, aunt and uncle Dorthy and Hank, nephew Aaron, Kelly's brother, Brother Bruce Temple; good friend and brother Jeff Lyles, brother Buddy Nissing's wife Judy, Brother Jimmy Walters, Brother Bill Edens, Brother Sonny Newsom, brother in law Eric's mother and their speedy recoveries, good friends Ron Wyden, Pat O'baby, the families of brother Charlie Miles, brother Jay Myron and Jill Thorn and those who are having health issues; protecting Christopher, Rhyon and Amy and all in need. POLITICAL:
The election result's yesterday were
somewhat disappointing, but my favorite candidate for Portland Mayor
did make the November run off; but I was VERY disappointed in the
Mike Schaufler race !
My
political report will still include MY
reasoning.

STATES SENATOR FROM OREGON; I have considered him a personal friend
for a few decades and his attendance and introduction of Our 290
RELATED candidate Val Hoyle from Eugene was excellent.
JON HAUGEN FOR UNITED
STATES CONGRESS IN SW WASHINGTON.
KURT
SCHRADER FOR UNITED STATES CONGRESS
! He is now OUR new congressman
CANDIDATE, and his support for our military and his effectiveness in
congress so far has brought the wrath of “bush's brain” carl
rove.
EARL BLUMENHAUER FOR
UNITED STATES CONGRESS ! I have known, and been his constituent since
his entry into Congress, least until this year, and his service to
his constituency, and the State of Oregon; IS exemplary

UNION REPORT:
I did have a wonderful visit and took Jon Haugen on a tour of the training center and he was quite impressed, although because of an Apprenticeship Committee meeting I was not able to introduce him to either Al, Billy, or Mike Pollack, although he did have a nice conversation with one of the apprentices in the break room, and he did tell me he was going to attend the Labor Roundtable meeting Friday morning in Vancouver.
Retiree meeting Tomorrow and Union meeting Friday night, hope to see you there.
I spoke with brother Sonny Newsom because I was concerned when I learned at the V.O.C. meeting that he was in the Intensive Care Unit at O.H.S.U. from his son, I am happy to report he sounded good and I think he has been released.

We need to remember Brother Jimmy Walters, Brother Bill Edens (who looked pretty good at the retiree meeting); and Brother Sonny Newsom who are recovering from surgeries and Brother Jim Zettlow who is fighting Mesothelioma, so please add them to your prayers for a speedy and successful recoveries.

awoke this morning at 7am to a 3 after 9+ hours of decent sleep, and

FAMILY REPORT:
I DID HAVE A WONDERFUL VISIT WITH NEPHEW DANIEL AFTER THE A.O.H. MEETING LAST NIGHT, AND I THINK HE ACTUALLY MAY JOIN.
I SILL NEED TO GET A SURVEY PROGRAM SET UP TO TRACK FIRST NAMES.
I did take my “shadow box” to the Hall and I think? they got it mounted in the archives, I'll have to check at Thursday's retiree meeting.
It still appears I am the the only “follower” on my “MEHRENS/MONAHAN” blog?
