***MAY DAY RALLY IN PORTLAND WAS GREAT, BUT WET; NOT SO IN SEATTLE****



MAY 2, 2012

I have remodled my “Wally Mehrens” blog and made some changes, for 2 basic reasons. And I am going to unfriend a lot of my current face book friends because;

  1. I need to try to find out if anyone is reading it.
  2. I am also going to soon cut some sections so I expect to hear if there are preferences to keep, or eliminate and you need to let me know.

I will put the prayers I have been posting again right here up front, especially for sister Danni; and thank you all for Rhyon, Christopher and now cousin Amy.

“Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen.”

Prayer to St. Jude for Eternal Life

You are my solace, St. Jude, in the face of loss and sorrow. I pray that you will guide my heart away from the darkness of fear and into the light of Christ. May the hope that St. Jude keeps alive in my heart be a source of comfort to all those who grieve. For in that hope, we know God's mercy, and we trust God's promise of eternal life. My soul longs for the fullness of life, which is only to be revealed when I meet my Maker in heaven. Stay by my side, St. Jude, so that my soul will always know the power of your healing love. Amen.

For sister Danni, nephew Steve, sister Clare, cousin Mick, aunt and uncle Dorthy and Hank, nephew Aaron, Kelly's brother, Brother Bruce Temple; good friend and brother Jeff Lyles, brother Buddy Nissing's wife Judy, Brother Jimmy Walters, Brother Bill Edens, brother in law Eric's mother and their speedy recoveries, good friends Ron Wyden, Pat O'baby, the families of brother Charlie Miles and brother Jay Myron and Jill Thorn and those who are having health issues; protecting Christopher, Rhyon and Amy and all in need. Putting Americans to Work in American Forests

In 2009, Jeff fought hard for funding for jobs in Oregon's forests as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, to put unemployed Oregonians to work thinning our overgrown, choked second-growth forests. However, the companies hired to do the work evaded federal law to import cheap foreign workers, advertising for the jobs far from where the work was being done, then declaring there were no eligible Americans to do the work.

When Jeff learned about this outrage, he demanded answers from the Department of Labor, and recently partnered with Congressman Peter Defazio to introduce a bill that will fill the holes in the H-2B visa program so incidents like this one never happen again. The bill will force companies to work with the state's employment department to ensure there really are no Americans available before visas are granted. No one can say with a straight face there were not Oregonians ready and willing to work in the forests in 2009 and 2010.

My political report will still include MY reasoning.

RON WYDEN FOR UNITED STATES SENATOR FROM OREGON; I have considered him a personal friend for a few decades and his attendance and introduction of candidate Val Hoyle from Eugene last night was excellent.

KURT SCHRADER FOR UNITED STATES CONGRESS ! He is now OUR new congressman and his support for our military and his effectiveness in congress so far has brought the wrath of “bush's brain” carl rove and the tea party republican's tells he must be VERY effective. I am sorry I missed your breakfast.

EARL BLUMENHAUER FOR UNITED STATES CONGRESS ! I have known, and been his constituent since his entry into Congress, least until this year, and his service to his constituency, and the State of Oregon; IS exemplary !

JUDY SHIPRACK FOR MULTNOMAH COUNTY COMMISSIONER ! I have known Judy for over 30 years and I know her priorities and concerns for the County and her stamina under the attack's by that “rag” W.W.

CHARLIE HALES FOR PORTLAND MAYOR ! I met Charlie when he was on the Portland City Council and I was still living and working in Portland. His door was always open to the concern's of any Portlander, and while I can not think of any disagreement's I might have had with him during his tenure; I do know I would have been able to reach him with them, and that Oregonian endorsement was absolutely right on, but it did appear to me that rag W.W. did do a real attack on you and the Oregonian did blow the endorsement for Mary Nolan.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS & CHARITIES:

I STILL NEED TO UPDATE MY “RAT PATROL” BLOG, SOON ALSO.

The American Rights at Work still needs help; now more than ever. We must not take our eye off that MAIN issue, The President?, and our two Senators haven't; E.F.C.A. And based on what I have been seeing and hearing, the Republicans have Organized Labor directly in their cross hairs at least for the next 2 years.

The Local 290 “DON SALEE” Member Assistance Program; and you can even make a donation through the U.A. Credit Union, and we will be doing a “BULL SESSION” drawing at the Union meeting's to help raise $ for them and I have sent in my 1st installment for me, and I sure hope we get some good weather so I can actually attend with an official, established handicap.

I DID THINK 290 COULD HAVE DONE BETTER ON THE REQUEST FOR DENISE HUTZENBIELER, http://www.epilepsynw.org/ ; AND I WISH THE PACWEST REPORT WOULD HAVE INCLUDED SOME OF THE LOCAL RACES.
And yes we did have a good turnout at the May Day Rally and march, although I didn't make the march, and I don't believe anyone was arrested, but apparently some “thug's” got out off hand before our gathering and their were some arrest's there, and I found out that there was a VERY BAD situation in Seattle that “terrorized” some working folk's at Nordstrom. MAY DAY IS TO SUPPORT WORKING PEOPLE, NOT TERORIZE THEM. THERE IS NO PLACE FOR THAT !!
We still to remember Brother Jimmy Walters, Brother Bill Edens (who looked pretty good at the retiree meeting) are recovering from vascular surgery and Brother Jim Zettlow who is fighting Mesothelioma, so please add them to your prayers for a speedy and successful recoveries.
PERSONAL & PROPAGANDA:

I awoke this morning at 7am to a 2+ after 8+ hours of good sleep and took my pills at 7:15am. I awoke to just a 2+ because I had another long day yesterday that finished up with the RALLY and march. I will put the contact information in here for those that did not read my Political Report, Www.valhoyle.com , Please help if you can; I did already post the information on the our 290 face book page and I really hope the Carmichael Clan can help. After I took my pill's I was even to tired to make the Kurt Schrader breakfast this morning but hopefully I will be able to make the May Day Rally and March downtown this afternoon. I am working and posting from my new computer in my office and thanks to my computer expert (Judi) I have unscrambled my posting. But I STILL need an electrician as we have a bad circuit here in the house

FAMILY REPORT:
I SILL NEED TO GET A SURVEY PROGRAM SET UP TO TRACK FIRST NAMES.
I did take my “shadow box” to the Hall and I think? they got it mounted in the archives.
It still appears I am the the only “follower” on my “MEHRENS/MONAHAN” blog?
