GO, BLACK EYED PEAS

PERSONAL

I awoke this morning at 7am, to a 3 after 9+hrs of sleep. It is a cloudy, dry morning. I took my am pills and put my flag out at 8am. I am down to just 20 pills a day counting my supplements and vitamins. We did get over to Marty's new place late yesterday, and they can be very proud. I am keeping close track of my blood pressure (116/71/59 at 11:25am) and watching for leg swelling. Judi and I went the movie and I would recommend it to anyone, Avitar in 3D. I did watch the Sunday morning talk shows and they were very entertaining. Sunday Morning had a few real good segments and I found out I will be rooting for the Black Eyed Peas on the Grammy's tonight. They are saying it is going to be televised in 3Dam and I'm sorry we didn't bring those 3D glasses home from the movie. I did talk to friend and brother (UA) Wayne Drager this morning and he was getting ready to fly home today, as he has a number of Attorney meetings next week in town and I hope we can connect. I am still checking on the good news that there is a new pill approved for M.S., AMPYRA and I will be doing some research on it.
We did get an invitation to Gib's daughter's wedding and I intend to RSVP. I got an invitation to Congressman Blumenhauer's re-election kick off on Febuary 17th the big event will be at 5:30pm in Portland but he is also going to do something in Clackamas County earlier in the day and that will be the one I will try to attend. I did also update my Charities and put in the link for “Wally's Walkers”.

I have found out about the Mehrens's in the U.A. and I received a real nice call from Louis Faust to thank me for the archive information I have provided. I did email the U.A. to see if they were interested in putting it in a “Local Union Report” for the U..A Journal.

God grant that I may live to fish until my dying day, And when it comes to my last cast
I then must humbly pray. When in the Lord's safe landing net I'm peacefully asleep.
That in His mercy, I be judged............Good enough to keep.

My daily prayer, is to Mary Mother of God…..”O Most Blessed Mother, heart of love, heart of mercy, ever listening, caring, consoling, hear OUR prayer. As your children we implore your intercession with Jesus your Son. Receive with understanding and compassion the petitions we place before you today, especially for the safe and successful birth of cousin Brandee's baby, nephew Daniel, as he is back in Iraq, nephew Rhyan in Afghanistan, cousins Rita, Vibiana and Mark on the loss of their mom, Aunt Ruthie; and all in need. We are comforted in knowing your heart is ever open to those who ask for your prayer. We trust to your care and intercession, those whom we love and who are sick or lonely or hurting. Help ALL of us, to bear our burdens in this life until we may share eternal life and peace with God forever, Amen.”
Thank You, Mother Mary, for your help and assistance.

I know I have been repeating things, maybe too much, on my blog; but some of this stuff I need to be reminded of and some of this stuff others need to be reminded of, and I've cleared a lot so far.

LDN and AMP REPORT

This is my attempt to keep track of my experiences with my LDN treatment for my Neurologist and his RN. So far with the 4.5mg I think I'm noticeably better. I am experiencing better days and now that I'm doing the new dosage I am seeing a marked change. I have now been on that brand new FDA approved pill, Aminopyridine, and I am very pleased. It is supposed to be good for “gait” issues, even those with primary progressive. I still have to check up on that new pill (AMPYRA). My BP should make my primary care Dr. happy.

POLITICAL

I am going to put a new section in the blog for Local Political races. The first Local Announcement follows:

I have apologized to Tom Marcraft for missing the REX BURKHOLDER FOR METRO PRESIDENT fund raiser last Tuesday night. I also heard from the young lady running to fill my State Representatives open seat and she did tell me she had a good meeting with Bob and John.
I am still convinced ALL this health care “controversy” that was being generated was to take the publics mind off of the Employee Free Choice Act, American Rights at Work, “card check” legislation. Based on President Trumpka's speech at the National Press Club, and the President's meeting with Labor; I AM feeling much more positive. I just wish he would have been specific in his State of the Union speech.

I still don't know yet, if the “soft landing” bill is done but that is one issue I will keep harping on until I am sure.

Did you know that there were more vets that died last year because they didn't have health care, than have died in both the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars?

The question for the day. Is a word to the wise, really necessary?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, somebody, I'm just not sure who, sorry

PERSONAL

I awoke this morning at 7am, to a 3 after 10hrs of sleep. It is a cloudy, dry morning. I took my am pills and put my flag out at 8am. I am down to just 20 pills a day counting my supplements and vitamins. I am keeping close track of my blood pressure (113/71/59 at 9:25am) and watching for leg swelling. Judi and I went to a movie yesterday and I would recommend it to anyone, Avitar in 3D. I also got a phone message from Daniel on SKYPE and I was sorry to miss it but other than sounding very tired he sounded good. I am still checking on the good news that there is a new pill approved for M.S., AMPYRA and I will be doing some research on it. We did get an invitation to Gib's daughter's wedding and I intend to RSVP. I also got a letter from a high school classmate that I was supposed to respond to by January 17th and I did not because it felt like a “we need money” letter from a political organization and I did not even open it until yesterday, sorry Meridee. Speaking of political requests I got an invitation to Congressman Blumenhauer's re-election kick off on Febuary 17th the big event will be at 5:30pm but he is also going to do something in Clackamas County earlier in the day and that will be the one I will try to attend. I did also update my Charities and put up a link for “Wally's Walkers” as some links have changed. Thank you Jonna Lynn as she was our second donation and I heard from Tim Flynn and he asked me to send him a reminder. I have found out a lot about the Mehrens's in the U.A. I received a real nice call from Louis Faust to thank me for the archive information I have provided. I did email the U.A. to see if they were interested in putting it in a “Local Union Report” for the U..A Journal. I also had a message when we got home from an old friend and brother (UA) Wayne Drager and he will be in town next week; he said he had a tight schedule, but maybe we can connect?

DANIEL (BARACK) IS IN THE LIONS DEN

PERSONAL

I awoke this morning at 6am, to a 3 after 9hrs of sleep. It is a dark, dry morning. I took my am pills and put my flag out at 8am. I am down to just 20 pills a day counting my supplements and vitamins. I am keeping close track of my blood pressure (124/79/56 at 8:45am) and watching for leg swelling. I watched the State of the Union and I thought the President did a good job, Keith Olberman did say that there were Labor Leaders as guests of the Speaker, I looked for Trumpka and Schuler, but I didn't see them. He did not talk about EFCA, but he did talk around it. I thought it was a good thing that he put the spotlight on the party of NO. I did notice that Supreme Court Justice Alita was bothered by the Presidents desire to fix that last ruling that gave “free speech rights” to Toyota, International Bankers, Off Shore corporations and big business and called on Congress to fix it. I turned the T.V. on to C-span to see what was “important” today, Hillary was at a conference on Afghanistan in London and the BBC was showing Tony Blair on their inquiry about the Iraq War on C-span 3. On CNBC the DOW was up just over 35 points, The Surgeon General was addressing the YMCA on C-span 2, C-span was to reporting on the President at the Republican Retreat.(Daniel in the Lions Den) I am still checking on the good news that there is a new pill approved for M.S., AMPYRA and I will be doing some research on it. We did get an invitation to Gib's daughter's wedding and I intend to RSVP. Receive with understanding and compassion the petitions we place before you today, especially for the safe and successful birth of Brandee's baby, nephew Daniel, as he is back in Iraq, nephew Rhyan in Afganistan; and all in need.

I will be checking up on that new pill (AMPYRA) also. My BP should make my primary care Dr. happy.

POLITICAL

I am looking forward to President Obama's State of the Union tonight. I am going to put a new section in the blog for Local Political races. The first Local Announcement follows:

PUT OREGONIANS BACK TO WORK ! RALLY ON THE STEPS OF THE CAPITOL
JOB CREATION BILLS ARE PENDING TELL THE LEGISLATURE:
OREGON’S WORKING FAMILIES WA

NT ACTION!

JOIN US at the front steps of the Capitol:
Wednesday, February 10th
11:30am-1pm
Sponsored By: Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council and Oregon AFL-CIO

How is it, our country is spreading “democracy” around the world, and because of a few U.S. Senators we don't even seem to practice it here in our own country. What was that threat made by the Republicans under Bush, (nuclear option)?

The Presidents State of the Union is tonight and I think he is going to struggle to get anywhere near a C.

I still don't know yet, if the “soft landing” bill is done but that is one issue I will keep harping on until I am sure.

Did you know that there were more vets that died last year because they didn't have health care, than have died in both the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars?

New question of the day. Are left handed people better because they are left handed or are they left handed because they are better?

JOBS NOW ! !

PERSONAL

I awoke this morning at 7am, to a -3 after 9hrs of sleep. It is a cool, dry morning. I took my am pills and put my flag out at 8am. I am down to just 20 pills a day counting my supplements and vitamins. I am keeping close track of my blood pressure (127/80/60 at 11am) and watching for leg swelling. I turned the T.V. on to C-span to see what was “important” today. On CNBC the DOW was down a few points. The good news is there is a new pill approved for M.S., AMPYRA and I will be doing some research on it. I did get signed up for Medicare and have my Medicare Card in my wallet and I still have to read the introduction booklet. It does not take effect until April 1st but I did get signed up before Judi! I did also update my Charities and put up a link for “Wally's Walkers” as some links have changed. Thank you Jonna Lynn as she was our second donation. I have found out about the Mehrens's in the U.A. I think I will try to put it in a “Local Union Report” for the U..A Journal.

C-Span is still reporting on the British Inquiry into the Iraq war and it seems Tony Blair did everything George W. TOLD him to do. It seems all the talking heads are giving grades to President Obama. He believes he has earned a B+; the talking heads last Sunday morning seemed to be settling at a B. I want to give him his B+ but, I will not, until we see the results of health care and E.F.C.A.. Based on what I have been hearing lately he is just a C+ and depending on E.F.C.A., which I sent another $25.00 to, a B+ is still possible. The Presidents State of the Union is tomorrow and I think he is going to struggle to get anywhere near a C.

I still don't know yet, if the “soft landing” bill is done but that is one issue I will keep harping on until I am sure.

BRAND NEW M.S. DRUG APPROVED BY FDA

PERSONAL
I awoke this morning at 8am, to a 3 after 10hrs of sleep. It is a cool, damp morning. I took my am pills and put my flag out at 8am. I am down to just 20 pills a day counting my supplements and vitamins, and I am supposed to keep close track of my blood pressure (127/80/53 at 10am) and watch for leg swelling. I turned the T.V. on to C-span to see what was “important” today. On CNBC the DOW was down again over 200 points, a bad 3 days in a row. The good news was that gas was also down. I did get signed up for Medicare and have my Medicare Card in my wallet and I guess I better read the introduction booklet. It does not take effect until April 1st but I did get signed up before Judi! I did also update my Charities and put up a link for “Wally's Walkers” as some links have changed. Thank you Jonna Lynn she was our second donation. I did text Haiti to 90999 and I received a response that the Red Cross will get my $10.00. The retiree meeting yesterday Dave was nice enough to give me 5 minutes to do a report on what information I have found out about the Mehrens's in the U.A. Thatwas why I had two posts yesterday. I did put it in this blog at the end under OTHER STUFF AND COMMUNICATIONS for anyone interested. I am also going to delete a lot of the repetitive stuff to try to keep it under 6 pages for Mike, but it does appear he is NOT the only one reading.

I got to watch President Obama's town hall in Ohio this morning and he was very impressive. I am going to put a new section in the blog for Local Political races. I sure hope everyone got their ballots in on measures 66 & 67.

A History of the Mehrens Family in the United Association
Local Unions 290, 41, & 111
The Mehrens Family in the UA Started in Anaconda, Montana on October 6, 1948 with the initiation of Wallace W. “Lefty” Mehrens that began a long history of family in the family of the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters, AFL-CIO.
Lefty started in the Pipe Shop of the Anaconda Company Smelter in Anaconda, Montana when he was 26 years old. After serving 17 years at the Smelter he decided to take his skills “on the road” and traveled from Wyoming to Washington then to eventually settle in Portland Oregon's Local Union 235 in 1965.
As the Patriarch of the Mehrens Family he started a legacy of over 338 years of Mehrens's and relatives in Local 235 and it's successor U.A. Local 290., and Local 111. He had over 44 years of membership in the United Association and his family members have served in numerous capacities in this Local.
His eldest son, William W. “Wally”, a pipefitter/welder, started in the Portland Shipyards. He started his career as a politically active member, as an alternate delegate that attended the 1976 U.A. Convention. There has been at least 1 Mehrens at every U.A. National Convention since. He has been a Shop Steward, foreman, general foreman and was elected as Local Union 235 Vice-President and chairman of the Executive Board in 1977. He was elected as a business agent in local 235 in 1983. Following the merger of the various in-state UA Locals and the chartering of U.A. Local 290 in the mid 1980's he was appointed a business agent then elected U.A. Local 290's first President. He has attended every U.A. National Convention since he was initiated. He was elected Executive Secretary of the Columbia Pacific Building Trades Council, AFL-CIO in 1988. A position he held until he retired, due to health reasons, in 2005. He currently has over 37 years membership in the U.A.
Lefty's second son, Michael, also a 30+ year building trades pipefitter member, a pipefitter from the Portland Shipyards, is the current Dispatcher and a past National Convention Delegate. He has been a shop steward, committee member and also served at various journey level and supervisory capacities, in the field.
Lefty's third son, Martin, also a 29+ year building trades pipefitter member, a pipefitter/welder from the Portland Shipyards. He has served two terms on the U.A. Local 290 Executive Board. His field work includes Project Manager, General Foreman, Foreman, Welder and fitter. He is also a past elected National Convention Delegate and numerous volunteer committee's.
His former son-in-law Rick Hindman, a 40+- year member and current Finance Board member, U.A. Training Center Welding Instructor and volunteer of countless hours for many committee's and boards. He is also a second generation U.A. Member whose family is also a long time U.A. Family. He and his brother Bernie have been referred to as two of the best heliarc welders in the whole of the U.A..
Lefty has 2 nephews and 1 nephew-in-law, James Anthony Mehrens, B.T. Pipefitter; William Francis, Mehrens, B.T. Steamfitter; and Dennis Hutzenbieler, B.T. Pipefitter with over 75+ years combined membership in this Local.

TEXT HAITI TO 90999 for the Red Cross

PERSONAL

I awoke this morning at 6:15am, to a 3- after 8hrs of sleep. I awoke at 6:15 to a stuffy nose and a nasty headache. It is a cool, sunny morning. I took my am pills and put my flag out at 8am. I am down to just 20 pills a day counting my supplements and vitamins, and I am supposed to keep close track of my blood pressure (132/83/59 at 10am) and watch for leg swelling. I turned the T.V. on to C-span to see what was “important” today. On CNBC the DOW was down again almost 200 points, a bad 2 days in a row. I did get signed up for Medicare and have my Medicare Card in my wallet and I guess I better read the introduction booklet. It does not take effect until April 1st but I did get signed up before Judi! I am also going to try to update my Charities and put up a link for “Wally's Walkers” as some links have changed. I did text Haiti to 90999 and I received a response that the Red Cross will get my $10.00.
I went to the retiree meeting this morning and Dave was nice enough to give me 5 minutes to do a report on what information I have found out about the Mehrens's in the U.A. And I did give the report to the 9 or so members there and they did seemed impressed. I will put it in this blog at the end under

OTHER STUFF AND COMMUNICATIONS

For anyone interested. I am also going to delete a lot of the repetitive stuff to try to keep it under 6 pages for Mike, as I think he is the only one that reads me on a regular basis.

Receive with understanding and compassion the petitions we place before you today, especially for the safe and successful birth of Brandee's baby, good friend Debbie Lee for her loss, nephew Daniel, as he is back in Iraq; and all in need.

My BP when I got home (at 3pm) was 123/72/60 and no headache.

POLITICAL

I got it done, I now have a HERO list, (NEW MEMBER, RICHARD TRUMPKA, President of the AFL-CIO) a ZERO list and an EVIL list. If for no other reason than, Joe Lieberman needed a special list, and watching the circus from the obstructionists I have to add ALL Republican Senators. Can't we get someone to convince Rosa D. to run for the Senate in Connecticut, with Chris Dodd retiring we are going to have to find another Senate candidate for Connecticut. Should Max Baucus be placed back on the ZERO list, other democrats too? I know I have a number friends that are registered Republicans, while I still like you, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED of your representatives in D.C.. I also saw on the news that many D.C. Politico's are retiring. I am happy about some of them leaving but sad about others.

How is it, our country is spreading “democracy” around the world, and because of a few U.S. Senators we don't even seem to practice it here in our own country. What was that threat made by the Republicans under Bush, (nuclear option)?

It seems all the talking heads are giving grades to President Obama. He believes he has earned a B+; the talking heads on Sunday morning seemed to be settling at a B. I want to give him his B+ but, I will not, until we see the results of health care and E.F.C.A.. Based on what I have been hearing lately he is just a C+ and depending on E.F.C.A., which I sent another $25.00 to, a B+ is still possible.

I still don't know yet, if the “soft landing” bill is done but that is one issue I will keep harping on until I am sure.

Did you know that there were more vets that died last year because they didn't have health care, than have died in both the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars?

Question of the day. Who was it that came closer to destroying the American Financial System and the American Way? So far the count is, it's George W 7, Bin Laden 5, Madoff 4, Obama & Geitner 1 and a Jeff Grayson, who apparently taught Madoff.

We now one nephew in Afghanistan, one back in Iraq and one in S. California getting ready to go; Who knows Where? Sounds like Afghanistan also. Be safe, hurry home.

At the 11th Hour, on the 11th Day, of the 11th Month a cease fire was signed to end the war to end all wars in 1918. How's that worked out so far?

SPORTS

All sports have superstars but I do believe Bret Farve is on a list by himself and he sure looked it Sunday. I am confused however; does this mean cousins Billy and Joey are rooting for the same team?

Giz; You might want to let Peter know; his scouts in Pasadena should be paying close attention to that Mehrens kid, soon to be playing on Jackie Robinson Field.

The loss of Greg Oden and Joel apparently has not had too bad an affect on the Blazers, Joel sure stepped up after Greg went down and since he went down so have the rest of the Blazers.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS & CHARITIES

Judi is getting started on the M.S. Walk that comes up in April already, if you want to become a member of Wally's Walkers, the link has been updated, The walk is on April 17, 10 a.m., Pioneer Courthouse Square. The Cancer Center at Providence Hospital, as I know they were definitely a comfort to Dianna, her family and friends those last days. Their pink gloves advertisement is great. And because of Joe Lieberman the Susan G. Koman foundation will definitely suffer in their fight against cancer.

The American Rights at Work still needs help. We must not take our eye off the MAIN issue. E.F.C.A.

MEHRENS HISTORY IN THE UNITED ASSOCATION OF PLUMBERS AND STEAMFITTERS AFL-CIO

A History of the Mehrens Family in the United Association

The Patriarch of the Mehrens Family in the UA Started in Anaconda, Montana on October 6, 1948 with the initiation of Wallace W. “Lefty” Mehrens that began a long history of family in the family of the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters.

He started his career as a politically active member as an alternate delegate that attended the 1976 U.A. Convention. There has been at least 1 Mehrens at every U.A. National Convention since. He has been a Shop Steward, foreman and general foreman and was elected as Local Union 235 Vice-President and chairman of the Executive Board in 1977.

His former son-in-law Stephen Craig Arnott, a M.T. Pipefitter and Grandson, Stephen Paul Arnott, currently a M.T. Pipefitter with a combination of over 35+ years U.A. Membership.
His grand-nephew Jason Jacques, a B.T. Steamfitter. He has almost 20 years in the U.A. Family.

We also have a second cousin who is an officer (Recording Secretary) in U.A. Local 111 with almost 28 years membership and 20+ years as an Officer in the Upper Peninsula in Michigan.

Members of the Mehrens Family have worked as Pipefitters, Steamfitters, Sprinklerfitters, and Pipe-welders and Plumbers, under the proud banner of the United Association.

The United Association is over 120 years old; The Mehrens Family combined has almost 3 ½ Centuries of membership in this Organization.

United Association Family members for just under 3 1/2 Century's

I did text Haiti to 90999 and I received a response that the Red Cross will get my $10.00. I did get to meet Jim Pauley for lunch yesterday and that was nice, John had a funeral to go to.

It's hard to believe we started the BULL SESSION twenty years ago. Thanks again for stepping up again Local 290. I will offer my suggestions for getting more “Worker Member” participation. I am going to get a new set of clubs as I need an old man set; flexible shaft. I do like Calloways but I better go to a dealer and have them check my swing, hopefully they will have a “Wally Catcher” available.

God grant that I may live to fish until my dying day, And when it comes to my last cast

I watched Charlie Rose, who's guest was Raymond Joseph, the “Ambassador” from Haiti. It was very enlightening. They really need help and I would encourage all to do what they can; especially my brothers and sisters from 290. He explained that his country was the second independent country in the western hemisphere behind the United States. It was a slave colony that won it's independence from colonialists (THE POWER STRUCTURE). His statement that the world needs solidarity now to help his country and with “In Unity there is Strength” as part of their constitution. If you have been to a meeting at our Union Hall you had to notice the BANNER above the podium is the same. I suggest you GIVE WHAT YOU CAN.
