I awoke this morning at 6:45am, and after 9+ hours of sleep I awoke to a 3-. The Nominations for Local 290 went way too long. I did make it there early (5:30pm) enough for the tailgate party Al put on, and other than being too wet and cold it was a lot of fun; well done Al, I am still cold to the bone and fighting a slight cold. I also thought I posted a message on the Our 290 face book page Saturday but apparently I hit the wrong button and it didn't get posted, so I will put it here on my blog again today in the my local Union section. I did post another message on the OUR 290 face book page yesterday, and It did make it on. I did get to NWOLC and got some more “i am the 99% placards and stickers and took them to the meeting and they seemed to go pretty fast. I still have not emailed Grady Storms with the email I got from Congressman Blumenhauer, I know I have her card with her email address; I just need to find it. The “WALL STREET, BANKSTERS demonstrations continue and, I still believe that the credit Unions should get together and have a “C.U.M.O.” Credit Unions are Member Owned, gathering around the City. and the city should BILL the Banks for the Cities clean up costs, with some sort of “Business License fee” to pay for the clean up; and I did send this suggestion to Mayor Adams. SHOCK OF ALL SHOCKS, Commissioner Fritz was supporting the “occupiers” right to protest, so far anyway, it's alright here but apparently not in Ireland. I did hear that Commissioner Fritz voted against the “jobs” Columbia River Crossing project, and I hope everyone appreciated my very short posting yesterday, but I didn't get to say Thank You, and go up the hill to see Mom and Dad.
My flier for the local branches of Wells Fargo, Chase and Citibank, were very popular at the union meeting last night, and the AFL-CIO rally downtown, and maybe today will to be a good day for me to picket, I hope.

THE JOINT COMMITTEE ON DEFICIT REDUCTION'S FIRST COMMITTEE HAS JUST STARTED ON C-SPAN2. IT TOOK PLACE SEPTEMBER 8TH AND WHILE MOST OF THE MEDIA HAVE BEEN SAYING IT'S A USELESS EFFORT, MOST ALL OPENING STATEMENT'S WERE SAYING WE (THE COMMITTEE) CANNOT FAIL. IT ACTUALLY GOT THROUGH ABOUT 4 MINUTES UNTIL THE REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVE FROM MICHIGAN WAS INTERUPTED, A COORDINATED EFFORT I BELIEVE, BUY A YELLING MATCH FROM THE AUDIENCE. BASED ON SENATOR KYL'S (R-AZ) OPENING STATEMENT IT WAS APPARENT TO ME THE R'S ALL WERE GOING TO SKUTTLE THIS EFFORT.
REPRESENTATIVE JAMES CLYBURN OF SOUTH CAROLINA MADE THE BEST; IN MY OPINION HAS MADE THE MOST IMPASSIONED AND GOOD OPENING STATEMENT.

AOH REPORT:
I have ordered MY issue of the “History of the AOH in America”.
OUR LAST AOH MEETING WAS GREAT, AND WE HAD A GREAT DISCUSSION ON WHICH POLITICAL PARTY IN IRELAND WE MIGHT BELONG TO IF WE WERE RESIDENTS AND VOTERS. WE ALSO FOUND OUT GERALD IS OPENING ANOTHER KELL'S AT 21ST AND EVERETT, BUT I THINK IT WILL JUST BE BREW PUB AND SPORTS BAR.

I still think we need a few OREGONIANS on Father McManus's “Congressional Friends” list. We must never forget the Ballymurphy Massacre of 1971, (40 years searching for justice). We need to realize along with a number of Irish Catholic's, including a priest that were assassinated that day there were also a number of Northern Irish Protestants. This battle for justice that is being waged here in the U.S.A. by father McManus is also being waged in Belfast Northern Ireland by a heroic Belfast protestant named Raymond McCord Sr., whose son was also assassinated. I have received Father McManus's book and it was signed by our New Assistant G.P., and I now have a better understanding of commissioner Fritz's racist Animosity towards the Irish. I did send Father McManus a check to join his efforts and he sent me a thank you and I am now a Congressional friend of Father McManus.
I ALSO THINK maybe we (AOH) can get an “Irish Appreciation Night fundraiser at Jeld Wen field, and that would go a long way to having the funds for future actions, and they did announce they were increasing the capacity.

My baseball reports are over now that, THE WORLD SERIES HAS A NEW CHAMPION, THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS !
FOOTBALL – DARN THE DUCKS LOST BY 3 POINTS SATURDAY TO USC 38-35, GO SEAHAWKS, GREAT WIN SUNDAY, GO STEELERS; MARTY AND DEAN ARE PROBABLY HAPPY RIGHT NOW AS THE RAIDERS WON AND ARE IN FIRST PLACE.

The American Rights at Work still needs help; now more than ever. We must not take our eye off that MAIN issue, our two Senators haven't; E.F.C.A. And based on what I have been seeing and hearing, the Republicans have Organized Labor directly in their cross hairs at least for the next 2 years.

I ABSOLUTELY HAD TO RESPOND ON THE OUR290 FACE BOOK PAGE AS FOLLOWS;
Today, I have a few responses to brother Lyman Warnock's posting. The first thing I have to say is I apologize to Al. I am apologizing to Al, because he asked me not to respond to your assertions. As a strong supporter of The Al Schropsire campaign for Local 290 Business Manager, I respect your different choice for the next Business Manager; but I totally disagree with your logic. You keep stating that the Local Union need's a person with an experienced business back-round, because the local is a multimillion dollar business. This is my biggest complaint with your logic. My personal experience with Lou, I hope you are aware, has been my personal battle with Kaiser Permanente; and is over their refusal to reimburse me for over charged co-payments. He has directed the Trust Attorney to work with me and Kaiser to fix my issue. And I will say he has been responsive and I have received 2 of the dozens of payment's from Kaiser I believe they owe me. One of the other things that bothered me at the nomination meeting was the reference many times of opinions by the attorney, Steve Buckley, concerning the issue's with Intel. I have known Steve Buckley for many years; he is the collections attorney for the Local. A much needed position for a union; he is a specialist in that field. He is not a Labor Lawyer. Getting Labor Law advice from him, I would liken it to getting piping system advice from a carpenter; after all they are both construction workers. (no disrespect to my friend Steve). The other major difference, in my opinion, is Al believes this union is a FRATERNAL organization first and foremost; and the first duty of our officers is to take care of their sisters and brothers. I apologize to all the OUR 290 members for going on so long but and, my apologies to Al as he asked me not to respond to these personal attacks.
IT PAINS ME TO SAY THIS, BUT IT APPEARS A COUPLE OF OUR LONGTIME UNION CONTRACTOR'S ARE OPERATING LIKE THE BIGGER NON UNION CONTRACOR'S, I THINK AFTER THE ACTION TAKEN LAST NIGHT THEY WILL SEE THE ERROR OF THEIR WAYS. STEVE, I AM NOT SURE IF JIM WOULD EVEN RECOGNIZE THE COMPANY HE BUILT.
