UNION MEETING TONIGHT

PERSONAL & PROPAGANDA:

I slept in this morning until 10am, after 12 hours of sleep and awoke to a 3; and took my am pills. The change continues. I did make the retiree meeting yesterday, which is why I did not get posted. My Union meeting is tonight and I have a couple of runs to make today so I don't know if there will be much new to post before I leave. I did check the DOW and it is up almost 200 points with 1 ½ hour to go. I imagine one subject of discussion tonight will be the “carpenters” raiding the U.A. on a job in Longview, and and I still can't help but believe that Jim Francesconi is somewhere behind it; also, I placed the information on my “Rat Patrol Blog” and will keep it here in my Local Union Report. I did get things square for our “silent auction” for Al at Gloria'z on the 29th and would ask all that can, to attend and even bring something for the auction and I will put his facebook page in the Local Union Section. I am back on my regular schedule to Monday, Wednesday and Friday; (My Mehrens/Monahan) blog Thursday and Saturday; and (The O.R.T.- Now Wally's Rat Patrol) Blog Tuesday, which I missed yesterday and (whatever) on Sunday. I did send around that Wikipedia site on Monahans Texas that Judi found for me and I did get an email and attachment yesterday from cousin Dan and he is ready to publish his book. I took the cover email to the AOH last night and shared it with my brothers. The “WALL STREET, BANKSTERS demonstrations continue, and it looks like good turnouts continue here in Portland and, SHOCK OF ALL SHOCKS, Commissioner Fritz was supporting their right to protest, ok here but apparently not in Ireland; based on the news the protest's are spreading around the world, THE DOW IS UP TODAY OVER 200+ PONTS.

I think putting together a flier for the local branches of Wells Fargo and Citibank is in order.

POLITICAL:

The Demonstrations in N.Y. City against the Banksters are absolutely great ! And there is a lot of buzz on line about what many are doing to get even with them, some of which sound pretty good. I did see that the demonstrations continue, now all over the world. YEA !!
Our slogan from the health care reform fight is as true today as it was in 2009: "If the insurance companies win, we lose."

Noon Rally at Esther Short Park* in Vancouver

Many have participated in powerful Portland Rising events on April 16th and June 30th. This time it will be Portland Rising AND Vancouver rising as we connect struggles on the two sides of the river. In addition to supporting union campaigns, we will also be sending a message to Senator Patty Murray, co-chair of the Congressional "Super-Committee," which is poised to make cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, that these programs should not be cut one cent!

The times have been changing in the last weeks. The occupations of Wall St., Portland, and other places are highlighting the fact that there are plenty of resources in our society - it is just that the 1% is grabbing all this abundance for themselves. At the very least, we have enough resources for good jobs for all and an enhanced safety net! Join us! This is a great time to come out and help make the changes we need.

*Portland meeting place: We will meet at the field just off of Northbound I-5 Exit 308. The field is on the East side of I-5, between the highway and Taco Bell. Parking is available on N. Jantzen Street. and other side streets. The #6 Tri-Met bus stops at N. Jantzen St.

I still think we need a few OREGONIANS on Father McManus's “Congressional Friends” list. We must never forget the Ballymurphy Massacre of 1971, (40 years searching for justice). We need to realize along with a number of Irish Catholic's, including a priest that were assassinated that day there were also a number of Northern Irish Protestants. This battle for justice that is being waged here in the U.S.A. by father McManus is also being waged in Belfast Northern Ireland by a heroic Belfast protestant named Raymond McCord Sr., whose son was also assassinated. I have received Father McManus's book and it was signed by our New Assistant G.P., and I now have a better understanding of commissioner Fritz's racist Animosity towards the Irish. I did send Father McManus a check to join his efforts and he sent me a thank you and I am now a Congressional friend of Father McManus.

I ALSO THINK maybe we (AOH) can get an “Irish Appreciation Night fundraiser at Jeld Wen field, and that would go a long way to having the funds for future actions.

SPORTS:

My baseball reports will be limited to, the Playoffs now that my Orioles knocked out the Red Sox :-), wait till next year for the Cubs. The tigers are out but the Cardinals are in.
